To help you understand how to get the best from your LAP-BAND® System, it’s important to be aware of the different zones1 associated with the LAP-BAND®, as this will assist you in reaching your weight loss. Remember, always listen to your body and maintain regular contact with your bariatric clinic.
There are three different zones: Green, Yellow and Red. Always remember that the Green Zone is the optimal weight loss zone. If you experience symptoms from the Yellow Zone or Red Zone, contact your clinic as your LAP-BAND® may need to be adjusted. The diagram below is designed to help you understand the different zones.

The Yellow Zone
Being in this zone you’re likely to experience:
- Eating big meals
- Not being satisfied after eating small healthy meals
- Struggling to lose any weight
If you experience these symptoms, it’s most likely the result of the LAP-BAND® System being too loose. If this is the case, it’s important to contact your clinic quickly as being in the Yellow Zone can cause weight regain.
-
The Green Zone
Being in this zone you’re likely to experience:
- Being satisfied with small meals
- Early and prolonged satiety
- No snacking
- Significant weight loss
- No vomiting
This is the optimal zone for weight loss, and the zone where your LAP-BAND® System should be to maintain your weight loss.
-
The Red Zone
Being in this zone you’re likely to experience:
- Reflux and heartburn
- Pain whilst eating
- Difficulty swallowing
- Vomiting
If you experience any of these symptoms, the LAP-BAND® is most likely too tight. It’s important to see your clinic and act quickly. Vomiting may cause pouch dilatation and band slippage, which may then lead to snacking and weight gain. You should not be vomiting after a LAP-BAND® System Procedure.
